We are delighted to announce our new learning programme open and FREE to all schools in Newmarket, Racing into the Future – Going Green!

This fully funded STEAM curricula linked programme for Year 3 and 4 students explores climate change and carbon reduction. It follows on from 2023’s popular fully funded Wild Escape learning programme, Racing Wild: Inspiring a Generation! which engaged over 200 children from Houldsworth Valley, All Saints, Ditton Lodge and Fairstead House primary schools in Newmarket.

This year, children will explore our site and find out about our green building. They will take part in a bio blitz to gather essential information about the biodiversity of our site so we can begin to build a picture of change over the years. Children will help to plant a wildflower meadow walk in our Paddocks and plant a tree for their school in our grounds and write a Carbon Pledge. They will meet and work with environmental artist, Hilary Cox Condron to create a large mural board for each school group which will encourage the whole community to reduce their carbon and hopefully make a carbon pledge with us. The mural boards will be displayed in Newmarket and at the museum.

Sessions will take place at the museum throughout June and July 2025. To fit in with school timetables creative sessions with the artist can be provided back at school if needed. All materials are included.

Sarah Coleman, Creative Programme Manager at NHRM said: “Thanks to funding from Museum Development South East, we are delighted to be bringing a free learning programme to our local primary schools and an exciting opportunity to work with an established artist. We can’t wait to get started. We are currently recruiting schools to take part. Teachers, if you are interested, please do get in touch for a chat!”
