The National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket has received a grant of £166,000 from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund to help the organisation recover and reopen.
More than £300 million has been awarded to thousands of cultural organisations across the country including NHRM in the latest round of support from the Culture Recovery Fund, the Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden, announced today.
The National Horseracing Museum (NHRM)is a unique national resource that places the hugely popular sport of horseracing at the centre of the nation’s story.
Housed in a five-acre site that encompasses Grade I listed Palace House (built 1668-1671), the Grade II Trainer’s House, King’s Yard (1857), Rothschild Yard (1903), paddocks, and arena. Palace House is home to the British Sporting Art Trust collections and the British Council’s collection of sporting engravings NHRM is also the showcase yard for Retraining of Racehorses charity where visitors can meet former racehorses being trained for life beyond the track.
This award will allow our organisation to continue with our special exhibition programme which is crucial to attracting visitors, improve our outdoor spaces to encourage the public to engage as lockdown eases and cover core costs until our commercial income recovers. It allows us to continue to support our local community and town, developing our family and community events and strengthen our education offer for schools and teachers.
