NHRM awarded VisitEngland Gold Accolade again!

The National Horseracing Museum was delighted to receive the news last week (22nd October 2024) that it has been awarded the Gold Visitor Attraction Accolade for 2023-2024, recognising excellence within the visitor attraction sector.  Not only is this a testament to the fabulous museum, it is also a huge endorsement for all our hard-working staff and volunteers who are key to the success of this wonderful 5-acre site.

We are one of eleven venues in the East of England to be awarded Gold status, with accolades being awarded to 72 English attractions covering all aspects of what makes an outstanding visitor experience. The five categories include: ‘Welcome’; ‘Quality Food and Drink’; ‘Hidden Gem’; ‘Best Told Story’; and ‘Gold’ for overall excellence.  Accolades are awarded based on scores that attractions obtained following their annual VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme assessment.

This second consecutive Gold Award for the National Horseracing Museum is testament to the hard work of the museum team, including the staff in the Tack Room restaurant and our on-site The Tack Box, our behind-the-scenes team, visitor services, shop and practical gallery teams, and of course our army of dedicated and wonderful volunteers. Each and every one of our supporters, team members and staff are key to the success of the museum and have all contributed towards this fantastic award and should be very proud of this achievement.

VisitEngland Director Andrew Stokes said:

“These accolades highlight the wonderful visitor experiences provided by English attractions, from the warmest of welcomes to amazing food and drink, from great storytelling to outstanding customer service.

“Our tourism businesses are the bedrock of our industry and it is wonderful to highlight and celebrate the fantastic service and experiences they give visitors, time-after-time. From museums, gardens and nature reserves to farm attractions, estates and theme parks, these attractions go out of their way to make visits memorable.”

Now in their tenth year, Visit England’s Visitor Attraction Accolades are available to participants of the VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme across a range of tourism attractions from historic houses, gardens, country parks and farm attractions to galleries, museums, churches and cathedrals.

Participating attractions are supported by a network of highly trained and experienced assessors who advise them on improving and promoting the quality, accessibility and sustainability of their offer.  Winning attractions can display the accolade logo at their attraction, online and in their marketing materials.

About the National Horseracing Museum

The National Horseracing Museum is a 5-acre site in the heart of Newmarket. It comprises three complementary attractions; National Horseracing Museum in the Trainer’s House and King’s Yard Galleries, the Packard Galleries of British Sporting Art in Palace House, and a chance to meet former racehorses in the flagship home of Retraining of Racehorses.

Using the latest interactive and audio-visual displays you can find out about the history of horseracing, plus meet friendly retired racehorses. You’ll also be able to discover what it feels like to ride a racehorse with our famous equine simulator, watch the sparks fly as a farrier works in the forge and enjoy some of the country’s best examples of sporting art.

Why not make a day of it and have lunch in The Tack Room restaurant or enjoy a picnic from The Tack Box whilst you’re here?
