For a family who knows nothing about horses or racing we had a great day out. Very pleasant and helpful staff, extremely knowledgeable - our turn on the simulator was great fun. Nice to be able to combine inside and outside elements. The cakes from the little bakery shop were amazing! We live locally so the free annual pass upgrade will be very handy.
Families are welcome and NHRM is a signatory of the Kids In Museums Manifesto. We hope that all generations will enjoy a visit here.
Discover the treasures of our collections, from skeletons to a Royal palace! Challenge your scientific knowledge with the interactives in our Maktoum Gallery of the Thoroughbred or ride our amazing racehorse simulator! There are trails to do, hats to try on, horses to meet, objects to enjoy, treasure windows to find, picnics to savour, photographs to be taken and memories to be made!
The site is a combination of indoor galleries and outside spaces so you will find lots of things to do, whatever the weather.
Our site is accessible with lifts and step-free access points. There is a dedicated room for baby changing.
We have an audio-visual inventory for those with additional needs or who just like to know what to expect! To view it, please click here.
Our central location means that shops are nearby on the High Street, should you run out of essential supplies!
In the Rothschild Yard you will be able to see our beautiful horses. Just ask one of our friendly members of staff if you would like to meet one! You can also learn about the Retraining of Racehorses charity in the galleries located in the Rothschild Yard.
Make sure you don’t leave without having a go on our simulator – experience the thrill of riding a racehorse and see how fit jockeys need to be! (Children under the age of 4 may sit on but not ride).
Pick up a trail from reception and be taken on a fascinating journey of exploration and discovery around NHRM. You’ll find some amazing objects and wonderful tales! Perhaps you would prefer to play our Bingo game and choose which is the weirdest object in the whole museum!
Daily ‘Behind the Scenes tours’ with the RoR team take place at 11.00am and 2.30pm Tuesday – Sunday.
The Behind the Scenes tours usually last one hour, take place outside and are subject to change. Please ensure you dress appropriately.
After exploring the 5-acre site, grab a bite to eat from our on site bakery or restaurant. The Tack Room Restaurant features the best of British produce, showcasing seasonal and local produce where possible. Throughout the summer, the outdoor terrace in the King’s Yard provides the perfect space to dine.
You are also welcome to bring your own picnic and enjoy it in our dedicated picnic garden, Palace House garden or our picnic room which overlooks the Rothschild Yard.
