Summer Holiday Fun at the Museum
Join us at the National Horseracing Museum during the summer holidays for creative workshops every Wednesday and Friday.
Workshops include printmaking, stenciling, t-shirt printing, pasta making and much more! These sessions run on a drop-in basis from 11am to 3pm on selected dates – scroll down to see what’s on offer!
July Sessions:
Cyanotype Workshop | Wednesday 24th July
Drop-in and join artist, Heather McDonough, find out about the art of cyanotype and create amazing equine and nature inspired sun prints to take home.
Magical Mask Making | Friday 26th July
Join artist Penny Sobr and make a magical horse inspired mask to take home.
Street Art Stencils | Wednesday 31st July
Reprezent return to NHRM! Join street artist Kev Parker from Reprezent and create art using stencils and spray paints.
August Sessions:
Love n Skate Workshop | Friday 2nd August
Meet Love n Skate founder and artist Stu Smith, find out how to print t-shirts and get creative, designing artwork for a skateboard. Choose a t-shirt artwork from two designs and print it using a screen press and enter your skateboard artwork into our competition to win a Love n Skate prize!
Printmaking Workshop | Wednesday 7th August
Join artist Nichola Eddery for a fun creative printing workshop inspired by artwork by George Stubbs. Part of the National Horseracing Museum’s year-long celebration of Stubb’s 300th Anniversary.
Summer Style | Friday 9th August
Get crafty with local artist, Penny Sobr to design and decorate a baseball cap or tote bag.
Art Club Day | Wednesday 14th August
Get creative using a range of techniques and media, contribute to our community mural and make a collage to take home.
Pasta Making Workshop for Families | Friday 16th August
Pasta making workshop with Sally Bycroft of La Cucina Italia (pre-booking only) and drop-in Kawaii style food inspired cartoon workshop.

Horsing Around | Wednesday 21st August
Be inspired by horses in the Rothschild Yard and around the Museum, by joining artist Nichola Eddery and contribute to our race day inspired community art piece.
Archive Animals | Friday 23rd August
Join us for a make and create session with Suffolk Archives, inspired by the photographs taken by Walton Burrell held in Suffolk Archives.
Tiny Chef Art | Wednesday 28th August
Join us for a fun creative session, where you can design and make your own tiny chefs puppets and food inspired artwork.
3D Portraits | Friday 30th August
Join Studio Scribbles and create a 3D portrait from modelling clay.
All activities are free of charge and drop-in apart from our Pasta Making Workshop which must be pre-booked.
There is no charge for activities, but families are welcome to make donations to contribute to materials on a pay what you can basis. Why not come along to the Museum and make a day of it?! Take in the displays around the Museum, meet the resident ex-racehorses and our Museum Mini Shetland Ponies, Kizzy and Harry, and even have a ride on our racehorse simulator.
What is The Holiday Activity & Food Fund Programme?
The Holiday Activity Fund Programme – also known as the HAF Programme – supports children and families in the school holidays. Outside of term-time, the HAF Programme provides healthy food and enriching activities to free school meal eligible children in every local authority in England. The Programme has been significantly expanded for 2023 and the National Horseracing Museum is proud to be involved in the 2023 summer holidays scheme. To find out more click here.
These picnic lunches are provided at no cost to recipients of Free School Meals.
