Newmarket Young Arts

We are excited to announce that bookings are open for Newmarket Young Arts, our programme of FREE monthly creative sessions for children and young people in partnership with Newmarket Community Arts, supported by West Suffolk Councillors through the Locality Budget and the Wills Trust.

‘Newmarket Young Arts’ will provide an opportunity for children and young people to meet a range of artists and find out about their artistic practice and creative careers. 90-minute monthly creative sessions will enable participants to learn new skills and techniques and develop their own creative practice in a supportive environment with light refreshments.

A range of local artists and artists from around the region will share their knowledge and creative journeys. These artist-led sessions will explore a range of art forms including drawing, collage, street art, portrait painting and digital games design artwork. There will also be a session with an equine artist reflecting on our shared local history growing up in Newmarket with horses and the history of equine art.

Each participant will receive a creative kit to enable them to continue working on their creative ideas and portfolio at home between sessions at the museum.

They will develop a portfolio of creative work culminating in an opportunity to exhibit their work and an option to gain a Discover Arts Award if they wish.

In total 48 children and young people will benefit from this programme. Three sessions will be held for up to sixteen participants each once a month on a Saturday, split into age groups:

  • 6 – 8 years (10 – 11:30am)
  • 9-11 years (11:45 – 1:15pm)
  • 12 – 14 years (2-3.30pm)

The session for young people, aged 12 – 14 years, will have a greater focus on creative career paths to prepare young people for making decisions about their GCSE subject choices and future study.

Parents and carers can book their child on the programme of six sessions by emailing info@nhrm.co.uk with Newmarket Young Arts in the subject line and we will send you a booking form to complete.

Bookings will close on Monday 17 February 2024.
