Horseplay: A Racing Games Exhibition

The National Horseracing Museum will be hosting a very special exhibition in 2025 entitled: Horseplay.

Featuring over 70 original horseracing board games, never shown before, the interactive exhibition will bring back memories of the many hours spent playing horseracing-themed games.

Horseracing has been one of Britain’s most popular sports for over three hundred years.  Game manufacturers have tapped into that popularity, producing hundreds of games to replicate the thrill of a win at the races. Games have been designed for all age groups, from simple family friendly race games to more complex betting games for older groups. Designers have used many techniques to enliven family evenings with the colour and noise of the racecourse in the home: the game rules, the artwork, the mechanics, the playing pieces, and the game dynamics that introduce uncertainty into the outcome of the game. This exhibition will explore the many ways that game manufacturers have brought the racecourse to the tabletop from the simple dice and card games to more complex and immersive board games.

The exhibition will be supported by a wide range of activities and events running throughout the year providing lots of opportunities for everyone to rediscover their love of games.
