Equine Drawing Masterclass with Nichola Eddery

Join experienced tutor and well-known equine artist Nichola Eddery for a drawing day inspired by the exhibition ‘In Her Own Voice, The Art of Lucy Kemp-Welch’. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists, you will enjoy mastering Nichola’s step-by-step approach to drawing the horse from the incredible paintings of Lucy Kemp-Welch.

Nichola is a classically trained, professional, and exhibiting artist who studied for several years at renowned ateliers in Italy, France, and America to learn traditional methods that originate from the Renaissance masters. Nichola invites you to learn how to draw the horse through her unique method; the day will involve learning the fundamental principles of drawing: line, shape, proportion, perspective, light theory, value, and shading. In the morning, you will learn the envelope and block-in stages to capture proportion, likeness and movement. After lunch, you will learn about light theory and how to capture the horse’s anatomical structure through shading. This one-day masterclass will help you understand these concepts and enable you to achieve a developed horse drawing.

Participants are welcome to bring their own sketchbooks and pencils. There will be a short break for lunch at 1pm and you are welcome to bring a picnic or use the bakery or Tack Room (booking advisable) on site.

Made possible thanks to support from the Weston Loan Programme and the Art Fund for the exhibition, In Her Own Voice The Art of Lucy Kemp-Welch.
